Shirring with a twist

I recently bought a couple of little summer dresses from Sussans to wear down the beach.  I really love the shirring detail on the front as it's on the diagonal instead of straight across, giving it a crisscross effect.  This works really nicely in the bust area as it tends to give it more shape.

The shirring techniques & tips are pretty much the same as here & here but I would suggest ruling your fabric up with a fabric marking pen first.  The shirring rows are also at least one inch apart.

A simple little variation to give your sewing some added detail.

I love that idea! I would never think to cross it over like that! X

Shirring is my friend! It is fabulous on the bustline.
