All about Shirring

I receive many emails asking all sorts of things relating to shirring.  So I thought I would revisit and extend on a tutorial I did some time a go.  Nothing screams summer more than a sweet little shirred dress so here's some tips, tutorials, patterns & inspiration.

These tutorials will give you the know how.
My original post gives you a heap of tips to get you started.
In Pretty Ditty's tutorial, she gives a get tip about spraying and pressing your shirring.
No-one quite does a tutorial like Sandi Henderson from Portabellopixie! I love her tip "It's easier to shir around a finished garment than to finish off around shirring"
Ruffles & Stuff turns her shirred sample piece into a cute hair accessory.

Patterns to use your new shirring skills

A cute ruffled shirt pdf pattern from Babes of Sweet
Shirred blouse pdf Ebook from Kustom Kids Online
Add some shirring to your accessories like this headband pattern by Flossie Teacakes
After visiting Pretty Ditty's tutorial, use her pattern to create this gorgeous summer dress

What elastic to use

It is best to use a shirring elastic so it is thin enough to wind onto your bobbin and thread through your bobbin carrier.  Shirring elastic is available here.
