Are your knitting needles sitting idle?

I hear of many people who love to knit but say they have no-one to knit for. There are many knitting charities which have current programs running to support various groups in need. Below I have listed a few Australian, US & UK charity lists but there are so many more. If want to get involved, do a google search of knitting charities in your area.
Knit4Charities is a Yahoo group, based in Australia, dedicated to knitting and crocheting items to donate to needy people throughout our community. All of our donations are given freely to whoever needs them - our items are not for sale under any circumstances. At present we have members in the UK, USA, Canada and New Zealand -- all helping to make a difference! This organisation has donated over 53,000 items since beginning in 2004.

Guardian Pharmacies also run an Australian program which starts 1st May through to 31st July. The program encourages Guardian Angels to knit warm clothes, blankets, scarves and other garments, which will then be donated to Australians in need via The Salvation Army. Spotlight has again joined the campaign as a partner, supplying patterns and discounts on wool through the 2010 Guardian Angel Knitting Book for all participants.

Afghans for Afghans is a humanitarian and educational people-to-people project that sends hand-knit and crocheted blankets and sweaters, vests, hats, mittens, and socks to the beleaguered people of Afghanistan. There is a current campaign which is knitting for the afghan youth 7-14 years for the next winter. US based.

eParenting.co.uk has a fabulous list of knitting charities in the UK.
