Sewing Tutorials

The sewing & craft community would have to be one of the most generous when sharing information. I come across so many fantastic tutorials, either by goggling or following links of other sewers, that 'experts' in the field have put together and offered absolutely free of charge. (for your personal use only of course!)
Each week I will make a short list of some that I have personally used or come across. If you do use any of these wonderful resources, show the writer some love and let them know via a comment on their page!
  • This one is a current fav as I try to master crocheting - It shows you how to do a single crochet stitch which is required for the new Amy Gaines patterns. Tutorial comes from The Knit Witch
  • This next one is from Expert Village/Pipers Quilts & Comforts as they show you how to cut fabric for bias trims. Perfect for preparing fabric strips to use in bias tape makers.
  • Hoppo Bumpo is a fantastic blog which also provides free tutorials (and recipes!!). The one I most want to try is the shower cap. (tutorial that is!!)
  • This site is like a directory for sewing tutorials! Covering everything from sewing lingerie to bag making.
One last thing: Jhoanna from One Red Robin (you can get the pattern to her adorable Ruby Doll here also) posted this link on twitter for an Oliver + S simple little girls skirt. Definitely worth checking out.

6 more very funky crochet patterns!

More crochet patterns from Amy Gaines have been added to the online store. (except goldfish & christmas as I have no more room in bigcartel) They are in PDF form and have detailed instructions and beautiful photographs

An easy craft project to make for yourself or give as a lovely gift.

These gorgeous Thread & Ribbon Winders are from The Digital Rose.

The smaller ones are exactly at the size of DMC thread cards and there is a small highlighted space for those embroiderers that want to add the thread numbers. You will receive a PDF file of two sheets, one with 36 winders and another with 6 ribbon winders - same size and prints as the thread winders but bigger and longer so you can fit wide trims.
Print on cardstock, cut and enjoy!

My personal printer doesn't take card stock so for mine I used a 200gsm paper and glued it onto a cardstock poster then cut.
These really are so easy to make and would make a beautiful and thoughtful gift to any sewer. Or you can keep them for yourself. I'm keeping this lot that I just made!

Haby Gadget of the week!

The clover wonder knitter has rotating discs that turn, making knitting tubes fast and easy. I suppose it is an extension to the old fashion knitting dolls. I had a play with the gadget this afternoon and found it very easy to use.

As my example shows, I just knitted up some decorative wool (I wouldn't use thinner than 8 ply) and used it to applique on a plain black scarf that I am knitting. You can also make little knitted animals and also add beads. It has two different sized discs.

Children (upwards from about 7 years) could also use this. It is now available in online store

Our giveaway winner is:

I used one of those new random number selector thingy's and it generated number (11)

Tonight is the last night!!

Tonight is the last night to enter The Haby Goddess Giveaway.

Fumiyo fabric has arrived.....

The printed "Fumiyo" fabric has arrived!!

In the end I had to get 3 of the designs printed as I loved them all. They all look fantastic. The colours are maybe a touch less vibrant than I expected and I need to tweak the spacing but over all I am absolutely stoked!

As very little fabric will be left after I send Anna her winning piece and keeping souvenir pieces for Beth, I am going to do another order on Wednesday 13th May. So a listing for all three fabric designs have been posted in the online store and you have the opportunity to pre-order these exclusive designs. All orders need to be placed prior by Tuesday 12th May at the latest as I won't be listing any of the fabric designs for sale when it arrives this time round.
