'It's all in the pincers' said Rose

The one thing I had most trouble with when learning to crochet was how to hold the yarn through my fingers.  I kept trying to knit with it - like I was casting on.

It was during my one on one session with Rose from the Gembrook crafting group on Monday, that she showed me how to hold my thumb & index finger like pincers - they hold your work piece in place. Once I had mastered this, holding the yarn through the other fingers was much easier.  But honestly, it does take practice and by the end of my first flower I was cramping!

I have a long way to go but I'm a wee bit excited with the result of my first few flowers (pictured above)

Here's a few cute little flower patterns for you to try.

1.Little Birdie Secrets (this is the pattern I used)  2. Salihan Crafts Blog 3. My Poppet

If you love the look of crochet flowers but unable to make them yourself, you can always purchase these dainty little ones available in The Haby Goddess online store

You're flowers look great - good job! When you make more you'll have to think of a clever thing to do with them!

Thank you for that comment. I started to teach myself crochet this month, but as I have only ever knitted... for nearly 60 years, I could NOT stop holding it like knitting. I will try again tomorrow. ♥

I must confess that i love crochet flowers on my scrapbook pages and was bguying that many that i went over to you tube (much to my kids amazement) and learnt how to crochet. Oh the wonders of technology and they thought you tube was just for their generation.

Snap! I have been teaching myself too. That holding the yarn business is TRICKY. Thanks for the links, I am going to have to keep practicing to get my flowers looking anything like those! X
